Out of the basement . . . and onto the stairs!

The last day in a half has seen a big improvement with Gracie. Once I get her collar off, she is a while new cat. And now, she’s not staying in the basement. Yesterday morning she started to go up to the first landing in the basement stairwell before running back down. I did feed her in the basement where she was getting fed before heading out. I did make a mistake though. I put her collar on before I left and carried her back to her “safe” spot in the basement. I should have left her to go there herself.

When I got home from work I was so happy to get the collar off of her. And once I did, back to the stairwell!!! We sat on the second landing for most of the night. I fed her dinner there and moved one of her water bowls. At one point she do go upstairs for a moment before coming back to the stairwell. I think a big part of it is that she like being where I am, so this weekend I will try having her come to me in the living room or dining room. I can’t wait either, because these weird sitting spots are killing my back!!!

I did have to put her collar on before I went to bed. I hate, hate, hate doing it because she seems so deflated and sad once the collar is on that she basically just lies there. I want to cry every time I put it on (and I did at the beginning, not so much now, but I still want to!!)

This morning was much of the same. Collar off, onto the stairwell. But the big news is that she left the basement and went to her upstairs litter box!! (I have one in the basement and one on the second floor where the bedrooms are). It was so nice to see her go there. Another sign of normalcy. She then went back to the basement landing, but that’s better than all the way back down.

She is also healing nicely. I can’t wait to get her out of the collar and let her be her happy self again.
